Miklat Bat-Melech Transitional Housing
A secure stepping-stone from shelter dependency to independent living
Going from the protected environment of a shelter to independent living is a difficult and challenging process. To help bridge the gap, Miklat Bat-Melech operates transitional housing. These units offer women continued support while gradually decreasing their level of dependency. Both women and children continue to receive therapy and psychological treatment from the shelter staff while living in these apartments.
Financial Independence
During the transitional period women are strongly encouraged to become part or the workforce and learn how to manage on their own. While a small stipend is provided by the Israeli government, it barely provides the women with a poverty level existence. Supplemental assistance is required and given by Miklat on a bi-annual basis. It is very important that the women foster their own independence. Therefore, despite their difficult circumstances, women are encouraged to pay at least a portion of the monthly rent with the rest covered by Miklat.
Individual Programs
A special program is created for each woman so that her journey to an independent life is monitored and guided. A detailed plan and specific goals are defined so she can be provided with a clear sense of progress. Following program guidelines ensures the best possible transition to independent living.
